October 2026 Montessori Update

This month: parts of a pumpkin and its life cycle, parts of corn, and a pumpkin poem!

Good afternoon, Parents,

All the weather changes are beautiful to observe from home windows, yards, and on walks, and observation is a precious skill! Falling leaves, rain, cold, squirrels scurrying, geese migrating: so much is happening!

Exploring the Pumpkin

We all got the opportunity to cut open a pumpkin and see its parts, and the children enjoyed it! All the children got turns separating the seeds and the pulp. It was such a joy to see the treasures inside the pumpkin. Fun!

Thank you to two of our students, who brought in two medium-sized pumpkins from their pumpkin patch visit! We really appreciated it.

Sounds and Numbers

Our kindergarteners have been working on combinations of ten and will do odd and even numbers this week!

Our younger ones are reviewing sounds, and number and quantity combinations. Many of the young ones are familiar with the names of the letters. If you are working with them, please use only the sounds, as we have to reteach them when it comes to words and reading. Thank you!

A Note on Illness

Our whole class is getting sick with fever and flu, and this Monday I had only 5 children in class! This creeps up on us without any notice and is not pleasant at all. Thank you for all the care and extra rest they need!

Poems

Enjoy the poems! Rain and pumpkin poems!

Thank you for understanding, and for all your support and dedication! We are blessed and thankful!

With gratitude,
The Montessori Teachers
