Agia Sophia Academy welcomes student of all faiths and traditions.

We are affiliated with the Orthodox Christian Church. In 2004, the various Orthodox parishes in Portland came together to found the school. Orthodox Christian principles guide our educational philosophy and environment. Our school is also hosted at an Orthodox Christian parish, St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.

The Orthodox Faith traces back to the Apostolic times. It was founded by Jesus Christ after His Resurrection. On the day of Pentecost, His Apostles, were filled with the Holy Spirit and then went out and made disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19, Acts 2:8), establishing the Christian Church throughout the Ancient World. The primary statement of faith of the Orthodox Church is the Nicene Creed, which expresses belief in the Holy Trinity, in Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead, in God’s mercy and forgiveness, and the hope of eternal life.

If you would like more information about our faith, please visit the website of our host parish, www.stjohngoc.org, or the website of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America: www.goarch.org.
