Middle School Teacher - Mr. Taran Schwartz

Mr. Taran Schwartz was born in San Diego, CA, but raised in Newberg, OR. As a student, he experienced both private education and homeschooling. He holds a BA with a double major in Theology and Philosophy, and a concentration in the History and Philosophy of Science, from the University of Dallas (2014). He completed some graduate study in philosophy internationally at KU Leuven, and the MAT from the University of Portland in 2018. He has since taught in both public and private schools both as a specialized history teacher and in all-subject, multi-age classrooms.

He was received into the Orthodox Church at St. John’s in 2018, having found the truth he had been looking for. He strongly believes that Orthodox education is a necessity rather than a luxury: education is growth, and growth needs a goal. It is Mr. Schwartz’s goal to help students grow toward Christ through goodness, truth, and beauty, both through their studies and interactions at school, and throughout their lives. He is excited to be able to pursue that in fullness by building up Orthodox education at Agia Sophia.
