Middle School Teacher - Mr. Taran Schwartz

Mr. Taran Schwartz was born in San Diego, CA, but raised in Newberg, OR. He holds a BA with a double major in Theology and Philosophy, and a concentration in the History and Philosophy of Science, from the University of Dallas (2014). He completed the MAT from the University of Portland in 2018, and has since taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade (all subjects, multi-age), 5th grade (all subjects), and 6th and 8th grade history.

He was received into the Orthodox Church at St. John’s in 2018, having found the truth he had been looking for. He strongly believes that Orthodox education is a necessity rather than a luxury: education is growth, and growth needs a goal. It is Mr. Schwartz’s goal to help students grow toward Christ through goodness, truth, and beauty, both through their studies and interactions at school, and throughout their lives. He is excited to be able to be part of building up Orthodox education at Agia Sophia as a place where that can be done in fullness.
