Parent involvement is vital to the operation of ASA and keeping tuition rates as reasonable as possible. When parents enroll their children at ASA, they commit to volunteer 40 hours of their time to the school each year (20 hours for parents of half-day students). The Parent-Teacher Partnership (PTP) is the parent organization that interfaces with the school teachers and coordinates many of the volunteer efforts of the parents.
The PTP is divided into three committees. Each committee has a chairperson who sits on the PTP board, along with the treasurer and president. The committees are: hospitality, fundraising and development.
Hospitality
This committee provides refreshments for each ASA event including our school programs, open houses and back to school events, as well as our teacher appreciation week and the end-of-the-year party.
Fundraising
The fundraising committee manages our three seasonal fundraisers and the scrip program. Our fundraisers typically include Chinook Books, Poinsettias and hanging Flower Baskets. The scrip program is a year long program that allows families to purchase gift cards and certificates for local stores and restaurants at face value with a percentage benefiting the school.
Here are some of the ways that PTP fundraising earnings help the school:
- Tuition assistance
- Refreshments and hospitality at ASA events
- Teacher-appreciation week
- Purchase of instruments for the music classroom
- Books for the lending library
- Classroom and office supplies (computers, laminators, shelving, classroom materials, etc.)
Development
This committee provides support to the development director of ASA. This committee is divided into several smaller groups that write grants, maintain donor communications, prepare newsletters, coordinate events (including the Greek Open) and other necessary measures necessary to help grow our donor base and our school.
It is our hope that our grant-writing committee will be awarded grants to help fund staff positions, provide a playground for our children and meet some of the other needs of our growing school.
